Enviromental Science

Students in Dallas Davis' Environmental Science and Ecology classes experience "hands-on" learning situations as they study water quality, soil quality, plant identification, as well as forestry and environmental issues. They have established relationships with the TVA Kids in the Creek program, the Emory River Watershed Association, and participated in the Envirothon Competition. They also conducted guided tours of their Outdoor Classroom for several groups of elementary students from Wartburg Central Elementary School. Many of their activities are chronicled in this site.

This section was Created by Environmental Science students Michael Cross and Josh Potter during Spring 2000. Adam Beaubien reorganized and updated this section during Spring 2004.

Historic Rugby

Historic Rugby in Morgan County, Tennessee, chronicles the story and people behind the establishment of this community.
This site was created initially in 1996 as part of the Connect-Ten initiative. Students from World Geography and Keyboarding visited Rugby and created this virtual field trip.

Students Patty Summers and Sarah Diden updated the page in 1998 during their Word Processing II class. Those same students redesigned the site during Interactive Multimedia Design class in 2000.

Morgan County Schools

At the request of the Morgan County School Board and Director of Schools David Freels, students designed and created this comprehensive web site for the school system in Morgan County. This site contains information for teachers, students, and parents. It officially went online in April 2002.
Working with Ken Vespie, Supervisor of Instruction, and Bryan Cofer, Technology Coordinator, the Spring 2002 Web Page Design students gathered the information for this site. Former Web Page Design student Andy Melton provided the initial design. This site was the first site Created by CHS students using Dreamweaver software. All information on this site was updated in the 2004/2005 school year by the current Web Page Design class.

U.S.S LST 451

A tribute to the men who served on the LST 451 during World War II. It contains pictures and names of the officers and crewmembers as well as information about the ship. Reunion pictures from the past several years are also included.

Kevin Peddicord, a student at CHS, began this project in 1998 during a Keyboarding class. Science teacher Dallas Davis' father, Kenneth Davis, served aboard the LST 451 and expressed a desire for the information which his father had about the ship be put into a form for others to see.

Subsequent work was completed on the site by Kevin during Word Processing II and Interactive Multimedia Design.

This site has been included in the Navy's Scuttlebutt newsletter, which is mailed to Navy veterans.

Water Quality Testing

Environmental Science and Ecology students learned how to test the water quality of various streams and creeks in Morgan County. During Paddlefest2001, many of these students were on hand in the biology lab and at a display booth set up on the square in Wartburg to accept water samples taken by participating canoers and kayakers. These samples were tested by the students. Their findings as well as the on-site findings from the canoers and kayakers are listed in this web site. Amanda Davidson compiled the results and created this web site during April 2001.

Web Page Design

First, second, and third-year students have learned proper basic HTML, XHTML, and CSS coding as well as aesthetically pleasing web page design. During the first six weeks, they were challenged with creating from scratch different web pages. Below are a few of the projects from the past few years.

In this first project from Spring 2005 semester, teams of students created a website using Notepad, Internet Explorer, and their creativity. Students were challenged to incorporate JavaScripts and Cascading Stylesheets in their coding to produce various user friendly features on their site.

These are the projects:

Trey Daugherty and Lance Lloyd

A Guide to the Symphony

Sara Smith and James Daniel

A Brighter Tomorrow DayCare Center

Stephanie Anderson

TN Law Enforcement

Brittney Moore, Megan Lamance, and Brandon Freytag

All You Need to Know About France

Jeremiah Heidle, Andrew Griffith, and Andrew Langley

Survival Guide

Also, in the spring, students took a field trip around the campus to take various pictures using the schools digital cameras. The students used the pictures that they took to create a web site.

These are the different groups' pages:

Brandon Freytag,
Jeremiah Heidle, and
Andrew Griffith

Lance Lloyd,
Trey Daugherty and
Andrew Langley
Sara Smith and
James Daniel
Brittney Moore and
Megan Lamance

The Spring 2006 class is working on designing sites for the Roane State Relay for Life Photo Contest.

These are two sites that the students are designing.

Ray Jenkins,
Lance Lloyd, and
Andrew Langley
Sara Smith,
James Daniel,
Andrew Griffith,
and Brittney Moore

In the Spring 2007 semester, two teams of students created several websites using Notepad, a browser, and their own creativity. Students were challenged to incorporate Frames, JavaScripts, and Cascading Stylesheets, in their coding to produce various user friendly features on their site.

These are their projects:

Project One- Global Warming

ADAM- Aaron Harvey, David Kunsman, Allison Olmstead, and Mikki Basler
PAM- Paige Hopf, Amanda Williams, and Matthew Spence

Project two- Llamas

ADAM- Aaron Harvey, David Kunsman, Allison Olmstead, and Mikki Basler
PAM- Paige Hopf, Amanda Williams, and Matthew Spence

In Spring 2008, seven students -- divided into two teams -- created various web sites. The only tools they had were Notepad, a browser, the internet, and their imaginations. The topics were completely random and challenging.

Team 1 - DoubleDJ - Daniel T., Dustin H., and Josh U.

Team 2 - David and the Wickets - David K., Stacey G., Allison O., and Madison B.
