Renaissance

General Information

The Renaissance is a positive incentive program that stresses a renewed commitment to academic excellence in education. The basic purpose is to promote outstanding performance among students and teachers through creative recognition and awards.

Students, faculty, administrators, and the community are involved in the promotion of the program. Businesses, foundations, alumni, and interested individuals provide financial backing. A tax-exempt foundation with a Board of Directors provides direction for the program.

Central High started its Renaissance program in the fall of 1990. There are certain criteria which must be met in order for students to earn and keep a Renaissance card from one semester to the next. Students who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher receive a Renaissance card, bronze, silver, or gold, and also receive various benefits at school and from area businesses as well as incentives from the Renaissance Board.

At the beginning of every semester, a Renaissance program is held to honor those students who had a 3.5 or higher GPA for the previous 18-week grading period. This is an important event for the students. Parents attend, as well as Renaissance Board members and sponsors of the program. The students walk through the line and receive their gold, silver, or bronze Renaissance card as well as other items such as shirts, bumper stickers, pennants, etc. Afterwards, the card holders and guests attend a reception with food prepared by the CHS Food and Nutrition class.
