CHS Class of 2007 Top Grads Announced
The faculty of Wartburg Central High announces the valedictorians and salutatorian for the Class of 2007. These students were selected based upon their grade point averages for seven semesters of high school course work. Five students will be recognized at the top of their class.

Graduating as valedictorians are: Stephanie Bullock, Christy Burgess, Brittney Moore, and Travis Nelson. Graduating as salutatorian is Jeremy Haynes.

Stephanie Bullock is the daughter of Lori Elkins. stephanieStephanie has been active in Beta Club and Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). She was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students and was a Knoxville News-Sentinel Academic Achiever. Stephanie received various departmental awards, numerous Renaissance Academic Awards, as well as Student of the Month honors. Stephanie is undecided upon her future plans.

Christy Burgess is the daughter of Jimmy and Gail Burgess.  christyShe was active in FCCLA, Anchor Club, and Beta Club. Christy was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students, was a Knoxville News-Sentinel Academic Achiever, and a winner at the Roane State Academic Festival. She was recognized as a Student of the Month on several occasions and received various departmental awards and numerous Renaissance Academic Awards. Christy’s future plans are to attend Roane State, preparing for a career as an ultrasound technician.

Brittney Moore is the daughter of Lela and Austin Moore of Wartburg. During her four years at CHS, she was a member FCA, FCCLA, the Beta Club, and a charter member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA). Brittney served on the Student Council and participated in the 4-H Honors Clubbrittney.  This year, she was elected vice-president of the senior class.  Brittney was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students, was a Knoxville News-Sentinel Academic Achiever, and a multiple winner at the Roane State Academic Festival. She was recognized as a Student of the Month on several occasions and received various departmental awards and numerous Renaissance Academic Awards. Last summer Brittney was selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Humanities and spent five weeks at the UT-Martin. Brittney’s future plans are to attend The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, preparing for a career in journalism and electronic media.

Travis Nelson, son of Tim and Winnie Nelson, has been active both academically and athletically, earning honors as WECO Player of the Week. Playing two sports (football and travisbasketball), Travis was named to the All District, All Region, and All Tournament team in basketball. He was member of the CHS basketball team that advanced to the state tournament in Murfreesboro this past February. Travis has been a member of Beta Club, FCCLA, and served as a junior class officer. He received several Renaissance Academic Awards and departmental awards, and was a Knoxville News-Sentinel’s Academic Achiever. Travis’s future plans are to pursue a degree in education at Pellissippi State and become a teacher and basketball coach.

Salutatorian Jeremy Haynes is the son of Doyle and Cheryljeremy Haynes. Throughout his four years at Central, Jeremy has been active in the Beta Club and Student Council and served as a freshman class officer. He has received various Renaissance Academic Awards as well as various departmental awards and has participated in the Roane State Academic Festival. Jeremy was a Knoxville News-Sentinel Academic Achiever and has been named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. After graduation, Jeremy plans to attend St. John’s College in Maryland studying Western Literature and then attend graduate school.

Senior ceremonies include Baccalaureate Services, Friday, May 18, at Calvary Baptist Church, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Graduation exercises will be Saturday, May 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Central High School Dallas Reed Davis Gymnasium.
