Sales Tax Holiday

      April showers usually bring May flowers.  However, this April parents of school-age children will reap “showers” of savings as Tennessee observes another Sales Tax Holiday, April 27 through 29. 

      The holiday will begin at 12:01a.m.on Friday, April 27, and end at 11:59 p.m.on Sunday, April 29.  Following the success of last fall’s Sales Tax Holiday, the first of its kind of Tennessee, the state legislature has designated a one-time only April tax holiday.

      Anyone may participate in this holiday by purchasing school supplies during the holiday weekend.  Any school supply purchase of $100 or less per item is exempt from sales tax. Anything that is more then a $100, or any item purchased for use by a trade and business is NOT exempt from tax. Things that are sold together may not be split to achieve the $100 limit. Under the special holiday laws, there is no requirement that purchases be made only for students. Anyone can make the purchase tax-free.
