Story by Aaron Harvey
It's tournament time again as the Bulldogs' season came to a close against Midway on February 13th. The Lady Bulldogs' made a strong district run to end the season and ended up with the 4th seed, out of 6. They took on 5th seeded Coalfield on Thursday, the 15th, and came out with a win.
Coach Dallas Davis said of the win, "I think both teams played hard. It was a game of spurts. They would go back and forth and we would go back and forth."
The Lady Bulldogs' advanced to play the number one seed, Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats, on Saturday, February 17th at 3:30.
The boys got a first round bye. They begin tournament action on Saturday, the 17th, at 6:30 when they play the Coalfield Yellow Jackets, who defeated the Sunbright Tigers to advance. The Bulldogs have defeated the Yellow Jackets twice this year and will have a chance to do it for a third time Saturday. The seniors on the Bulldog team have maintained a 7-1 record against Coalfield in their high school basketball career, and plan for another win in what will likely be their final matchup with Coalfield.
Coach Joe Layne is excited about the tournament. "It's going to be a great tournament. There are a lot of good teams. Our kids are excited and painting up. It's a good atmosphere. We've had a good tournament the last two years, and we're hoping for the same result," stated Layne.
When asked about playing Coalfield in the first round, Layne stated, "It's going to be a good test. It's an in-county rival, it has been for a hundred years, and they always play us tough."
The crowd support is going to be an important factor throughout the tournaments. Please come out and support your Wartburg Bulldogs. Painting up is allowed, but we ask that you please wear a shirt, and paint before you get to the school. You will not be allowed to apply paint in the school building.

Thanks for your support, and GO DAWGS!
