2007-08 Basketball

The 2007-08 basketball seasons has come to a close and what a season it has been! A late season run of five wins fueled the boys to an impressive win over Sunbright, where the boys claimed the district championship. In the girls’ action, the Lady Bulldogs avenged an earlier loss in the district championship game to Oliver Springs by beating them 51-47 to earn the regional championship crown.

For the frist time in school history, CHS hosted a girls’ sub-state game. The girls won handily over a visiting Cosby team 72-54. With “statebound” on their mind, the girls advanced to the Elite 8 in the Division A school across the state of Tennessee. A tough draw of Jackson County in the quarterfinals ended in a loss for the Lady Dogs. However, the girls played well and lost by smaller margin than other teams that Jackson County had played. Their opponent, Jackson County, ultimately won the state crown.

Looking ahead to next season, the boys’ team will have many of the same faces since they lost only one senior (Jordan Hamby) from this year’s squad. Four of this year’s starting five players will be returning for next year.
 
The girls’ team, on the other hand, loses seven seniors from this year’s state-tournament team. With only two returning starters for next season, the girls will have their hands full in a challenging district.
