Bulldog Basketball Bounces Back

2006-2007 Basketball Season Begins

The 2006 basketball season is in session. This year has already started out with wins against Coalfield and Sunbright. Both teams are looking forward to another successful season.

This year, the Lady Bulldogs have started off with a 1-2 season. Their first game was against the Oneida Indians on December 1 at Oneida. Although it was a losing game, the Senior Ashley Jonesladies bounced back in an exciting win against Sunbright. The final score was 52-25. Last Friday night the Lady Bulldogs went up against the rival team from Coalfield: the Lady Jackets. Our Lady Bulldogs worked hard and fought fiercely against the Jackets, however, it was a losing game. The final score was a depressing 37-39.

The 2006-2007 Boy's Basketball team has started off with a beautiful record of 3-0. Already the boys have crushed such teams like Oneida and Sunbright; last Friday night Coalfield was the victim to a brutal winning and an applause-worthy dunk by senior D.J. Shannon. With scores such as 92-46, how could one possibly stop them? Maybe there will be a chance of another District 4A and possibly even a Region 2 Championship? We can only hope . . . and wish them luck . . .

Last year the Bulldogs were District 4A Champions and went on to be Reigon 2 runner-ups. At the end of the season, they held an amazing record of 11-1 in District 4A and a mind-Senior Dustin Brownblowing 22-7 overall record. Coach Joe Layne was awarded 2006 Teacher of the Year and also District 4A Coach of the Year. Congratulations to an amazing season, Bulldogs, and we are looking forward to another great year.

This season, there is only one senior on the girl's basketball team. Ashley Jones is backed up by talented up and coming juniors Madison Branstetter, Stacey Galloway, Kristen Lavender, Megan McWhorter, Ashley Settles, and Amanda Staten. Also with eight Freshmen and eight Sophomores on the team, there is plenty of promising flair.

Indeed the 2006-2007 basketball season proves to be astounding thus far, and one hopes it shall continue to be just that: astounding. Good luck, and go bulldogs.
