Advanced English II

Advanced English is designed to prepare students for college. There is less focus on traditonal grammar exercises and more on analytic thinking, researching, and writing. There is a requirement of summer reading and writing for enrollment in this class. The summer reading for 2006-2007 is: Of Mice and Men, The Hobbit, and any Volunteer State Book of the student's choice.

All writing is due on the first day of school, even if the class is scheduled for second semester. Students who do not turn in the writing will be given a chance to switch to a regular English class or to receive zeros for the missed assignments.

The summer reading is selected from college recommentded reading lists. It is easier for students to read these in the summer than to try to read them in addition to their other course work during the school year. A test will be given on these books on the first day of the semester.
