Wartburg

Located at the foot of Ward and Byrd mountains, Wartburg is a beautiful town located on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau. The area was settled by Germans in the year 1828. Traugott Broome, the earliest settler, picked this location because of its resemblance to the landscapes of Germany.

The settlement was named in honor of Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Germany. The castle is famous for being the location at which Martin Luther was hidden during the Protestant Reformation.

Being centrally located , Wartburg is the county seat of Morgan County. The Morgan County Courthouse is the centerpiece of the townsquare. Other local businesses surround the square, creating a home-town atmosphere.
