Academic


Upward Bound students are transported to Lincoln Memorial University on Saturdays between September and May.  Students take part in three workshops that will enhance their academic career and social skills.  Individual tutoring will be given to students needing assistance.  Cultural trips will be taken during the year.  A monthly stipend will be paid to the student for each Saturday attended and weekly visit to the program advisor (Sandra Harris and Amy Young for Morgan County) at the students' school.  High school grades and curriculum will be monitored to ensure that students are on the right track for college.

Academic Services Provided:
(1) Academic monitoring:  checking academic progress within the high school
(2) Diagnostic Testing:  aid in determining student strengths and weaknesses
(3) Social Adjusting:  creating an atmosphere for social interaction
(4) Financial Advising:  assisting in preparation of financial aid forms
(5) Career Searching:  aiding students in career choices through available materials (books, magazines, computer programs, guest speakers, and career inventories)

Tutorial Services:
(1) Individual tutoring in high school subjects
(2) Computer programs for self-study

College Preparation Services:
(1) Learn valuable learning strategies.
(2) Explore values, interests, talents, and skills.
(3) Review and prepare for the ACT.
(4) Learn about Lincoln Memorial University and other colleges and universities.
