Foods and Nutrition Class Bakes Character Cakes

Story by Skylar Adams

Mrs. Howard’s Foods and Nutrition class has character. During the week of September 25 the class baked character cakes. Strawberry Shortcake, Barney, Magenta from Blues Clues, a Jukebox, a tractor, a dog, and a Rainbow Brite girl all came to life.

The class worked hard for four days to make their cakes beautiful and most importantly delicious. The first day was spent baking the cakes and the last three days were spent only on decorating. The process of decorating is time consuming, precise, and involves many steps. First the groups had to make the cake icing from scratch. After the icing was made, they had to color the icing to make it just the right color for their cake. Lastly the icing was put into decorating bags and design tips were used to create the appearance of the character.

After spending many hours making the cakes beautiful, it was time to show off the finished product and to finally eat it.
